EV chargers
EV charger installation, sorted before the car arrives
The charger depends on your house, not on the car. Worth checking what your switchboard can carry before you take delivery, not after.
Three things decide what you can install
Your switchboard. A charging circuit needs a spare way and enough capacity behind it. Plenty of boards around Preston and Reservoir are already full, so the board is often the first part of the job.
Single or three phase. Most homes here are single phase, which caps how fast you can charge. Three phase is quicker, but it is a bigger job and not every street can supply it.
Where the car parks. The run from the board to the car is real cable and real labour. A spot down the side of a terrace is a different quote to a garage beside the meter.
Do not charge off a normal power point
A standard power point will charge an EV slowly, and plenty of people do it. It was never designed to sit at full load for eight hours a night, every night. That is how you end up with a warm point and a melted plug. A proper wall charger on a dedicated circuit with its own protection is the version that lasts.
What we install
- A dedicated circuit from the switchboard, correctly sized and protected
- A wall charger mounted where you actually park, not where the cable was easiest
- Board work first if there is no spare capacity, quoted separately and clearly
- Testing, and a certificate of electrical safety on completion
Have a charger already?
If you have bought a unit, or one came with the car, we are happy to install it rather than sell you another. We will tell you first if it is not suitable for your board, and why.
Tell us what is going on
We will give you a straight answer and a fixed price. If it is urgent, ring instead and we will pick up.
